Back to the primitive.

So here are my two new toys for playing outside. Turns out they where on my legs the whole time. I read “Born to Run” which I only learned after words is quite the popular book these days. It presents the case that man is actually born to run, contrary to what many modern doctors think. As an example of this he points to the Tarahumara tribe in Mexico, that’s what caught my attention in the first place because as a teenager my parents thought it would be a good idea to send me hitch hiking with a family friend to Mexico for two months. This friend took me to Copper Canyon where we actually stayed with the Tarahumara, just an fyi, that’s a great way to teach a kid gratitude.

I had committed to run a ½ marathon last month but in the months running up to it as I trained I found myself falling victim too many common running injuries, mostly in my knee. The book puts forth the idea that as man was born to run our bodies are built to take what nature dishes out, so now I’m running barefoot three times a week for 2 miles, and then a long trail run on the weekend in shoes. the goal is to run the Grand Canyon rim to rim…with shoes. (I’m having a hard time finding anyone willing to run the 24 miles by the way so if your down let me know) Over all my feet and legs are feeling great, the knees are feeling way better, and I feel like I’m getting closer to my inner cave man.

With Sarah working full time over the last month running has been a good outlet to stay fit in shorter time. She starts part time this next week so I will have more time to hit the trail with the bike. Thank goodness for that.
